PROJECT SUMMARY
Using six axis robots guided 3D AI Vision, BHS Robotics developed a robust order fulfillment system that automated picking boxes and bags from an Autostore AS/RS system.
THE CHALLENGE
The customer installed an Automated Storage and Retrieval System to warehouse 170,000 plus unique SKU’s to fulfill orders directly from its Distributor Network. The AS/RS system automatically retrieves and deliver totes of parts to manual pack out stations for order packing and fulfillment. The order packaging portion from the AS/RS is labor intensive, tedious and an opportunity for incorrect orders.
THE SOLUTION
BHS developed a solution that would take orders directly from the customers database and request the correct part totes from the AS/RS system. The BHS vision system would identify the position of the parts in each tote and direct the robot to pick the correct quantity of parts from each tote to build the order.
Once the order is fulfilled the totes would be automatically returned to the AS/RS system and the BHS system would automatically bag or box the customer order for shipment.
IMPACT TO THE CUSTOMER
Order fulfillment is handled in a predictable and consistent timeframe with minimal rework. Orders can be shipped in a span of hours without the need for operator intervention at each step of the pack out process. The automated system allowed for reduction of labor and more consistent order fulfillment.
